Just thought I’d show you this :L
The Opening Gambit
by Jack Vettriano
As I’m pondering Maria Thorpe prior to drawing some fan art of her, there are a few details that make logical sense to me that I wonder if any other Maria fans (or just AC fans in general who portray Maria at all) have thought about.
1. BOOBS- Maria likely binds them down with a big strip of fabric (linen, very likely). She would probably do this even if she weren’t trying to pass for male because it was the only practical thing like a sports bra at the time. She wouldn’t care that the church preached against doing this sort of thing.
2. SHAVING- She would not, at least not at first. Hairy pits and legs, probably a tiny light trail on her belly and “side-burns” on her inner thighs, given her non-blonde-ness. However, she might start shaving her pits and crotch (all of it) if she adopted the Muslim grooming habits once shacking up with Altair (not saying they’re Muslim, just that it might logically be the common practice in that area), but up until she leaves the Templars she wouldn’t, unless the Templars are like the Teutonics and shave all that stuff by default too? Maybe…! Although it’d be stubbly because shaving technology wasn’t super great.
3. THAT TIME OF THE MONTH- from everything I’ve found, for the longest time, and I mean like even up to pioneer women in the US, the most common thing is that they would wear nothing special. They would just bleed into their clothes. This was just considered normal. However, as a soldier etc she very well may have been pushing herself to the sort of extremes of physical exertion that she just would not menstruate. Which means in order to have gotten pregnant she would’ve had a step-down in the level of hard combat-type behavior (while still getting enough to eat so she’s not starving) prior to that deal with Altair atop the tower. Which would be why even when she was presumably fucking Robert she didn’t get knocked up.
4. LANGUAGE(s)- English and French, possibly a tiny bit of Latin but not necessarily. I bet she and Altair spoke french to each other. Altair likely spoke Arabic, French, and probably one or two other local languages. From my understanding, English was not a super common language in the area, though I could be mistaken- but I think French was anyway far more common. When speaking to King Richard at the end/towards the end of the game he was most likely speaking french, since, er, well, that was what Richard spoke primarily. Sexy :D
Also I’m really not sure why Ubisoft apparently didn’t design her with a man’s haircut. To me that seems like the most logical thing, rather than some complicated braid-do that seems like you need someone else helping you to get it right. MAYBE ROBERT IS A HAIR STYLIST AT HEART? This is what I think. He has no hair of his own so he’s all over hers.
yes this is a wonderful post

I’m trying to like this woman, so hard, for Altair’s sake…this post helps.
Thank you I have been wondering about this stuff
Agreed with everything, but I thought women in that time had some rags that they washed and reused as eird makeshift...
